| Family |
Values within the family dynamics are at the center of many challenges today. Clarity on the value structure of the family, as well as the values of each individual member, can best create understanding and respect for each other. Lack of understanding and respect of each others values is at the core of breakdown in communication. Once communication breaks down, then members of the family make assumptions about what is implied or needed. These assumptions can lead the family members to become isolated and distant until feelings are hurt. Once feelings are hurt, the situation spirals into a complete breakdown of the family. The family then falls apart and members, such as teens, become at risk. |
| Personal |
Relationships are at the heart of our everyday existence. Resist it, as we may, we are in relationship with the world and the world is in relationship with us. This acknowledgement is one that most of us avoid at some point or another in our life. To resist creates isolation and frustration. We proceed to work on this isolation and frustration until we make up things about ourselves and others to validate our own beliefs. We make up in our minds that we are not deserving, not good enough, others don’t care, and that we can’t do it. To reverse these beliefs a strong relationship with oneself is the starting point. Once we acknowledge who we are, our purpose in life and what we stand for, the relationship with ourselves shifts. Once this shift in us occurs, our relationship with others also shifts. Life becomes simpler, more purposeful and fun. |
| Business |
Business dynamics are not all that different than that of families. When you think of it, business is one big family. All of its members operate under one common purpose and share the same values, or so one would hope. At the heart of the challenge is the purpose of why this group has come together. The values that frame their operation are not at the forefront of their day to day activities. The group meets frequently to discuss plans and ideas that are implemented with little or no success. More meetings are summoned to again implement more ideas, still no success. The group keeps a ritualistic practice of meetings and mechanics change to no avail. All the time the group never stops to examine their company purpose and values. Isolation, frustration and fragmentation within the organization follow. A total breakdown occurs. Production suffers and goals are never met. What eludes the organization is a simple check-in at what values drive the company. These values will follow their purpose. Together the purpose and values will guide the mechanics. The company goals will fall into place. |
